"On a Need to Know Basis" "Seek and you shall find, those who find will be disturbed" - Fr. Charles Moore. Richard's in depth newsletter for the serious about survival and preparedness, if it disturbs you maybe you need to look at it. "Incident on White Pass" An hour to benefit everyone, even those knowledgeable in being prepared. We *talk* a lot on BTO about long term preparedness, however we continue to see that an experience of danger can happen in the most unexpected times. Michael Knight, a known advocate of preparedness, joins Uncle Richard to tell you his story of being caught off guard and suddenly facing a dangerous situation, "this is where you get humble, I had just put my wife's life at risk." It does not take a large disaster to get you into trouble, you could be simply taking a trip on Route 12 to buy your favorite tobacco in Yakima as Michael and his wife Judith were doing that day. Uncle Richard also has his own story at home of waking up freezing and thinking "what's up with that?" Michael & Richard are here in hopes that if or when you face a scary situation, your decision making process will be at its best and that you will have everything you need at hand. "Stainless Steel, What a Concept!" Three large covered bins arrive with "No Fair Peeking" signs... then we hear "Howdy Partners" as Uncle Richard's Pots and Pans Wagon rolls into the BTO studio. The mystery is uncovered and out comes a fabulous and beautiful array of stainless steel! Everything you can think of, and anything you can't, is available in stainless steel including a steaming pitcher for hobo coffee and a very cool looking non-electric water distiller! Remember that to make water safe you can distilled it... and you need distilled for your big batteries, as well as for many other uses. Stainless steel is a great way to get rid of plastic containers for food, and an investment that saves money because of its long lasting qualities. What about enamelware? "When There is No Doctor" First, new items at the Survival Center made by the Amish, and what he has scored lately at the garage sales! This is an historic day, the Inauguration of our New President! And we are creating the future by being prepared. This is all about medical, health, and what we can do if no doctor or dentist is available. Richard recommends that everyone take first aid, CPR classes, and EMT training. Have no time to read? Store your books & DVDs in buckets like everything else. This hour is packed with stuff from $5 1st Aid kits to fully stocked EMT kits. Everything shown here can be seen at the website medical page. Lot's of books for everything, specific books for women and children, even a native's guide on medicine in wild plants. There are kits for wound closure, dental repair, O.B., homeopathy, essential oils, broken bone items, oral inflated splints, surgical tool set, EMT kit and more. "It would be wise if we would all learn to do minor surgery" and what about our pets? There's the Pet First Aid kit too, and food that lasts for 2 years. He also recommends stocking up now on "Super Silver", this is so good the FDA is thinking about banning it. The last item is the most complete kit that Uncle Richard put together himself, the "Retreat Medical Kit". "Tis' the Season!" Uncle Richard reports that we did good at converting part of a tree trunk into firewood at class with hard hat, dust mask, gloves, chain saw, maul, and gas powered splitter! (the chain saw was our favorite part.) He always says "Safety first!" and suggests you go volunteer somewhere you can learn things, maybe you have a contractor friend, etc.. His garage sale latest find "someone else's trash is my treasure" and a mystery item. So let's cozy up to the idea of giving Christmas gifts of preservability this season. Get your pen, he brought a lot of the top most popular books, and how to preserve your books in the "Poly Bucket Library." For those who haven't started preparing yet he recommends a range of small to large emergency kits. The Dewalt power tool set is very cool, as is the solar and crank power flashlight with table lamp and AM FM radio, a real neat looking LED work light with flashing emergency light, and a solar battery charger. And for the person who has everything... a set of hands free night vision binoculars, very cool! There are items here for every budget. It's Christmas time soon, consider giving gifts to those you love that contribute to their preservability! |

"Not to Panic, What to Do" We were happy to report we had finally seen the entire 6 hours of the Basic preparedness DVD, there is much in it we did not know, it is very informative and entertaining, then we discovered there is more on the DVD, find out what! "You have to keep going and not stop, it's understanding what it means to prepare." Uncle Richard gets a lot of questions on self defense, and yes that is covered in the B.P. text book. We examine the unofficial "Ramster" knife, the famous K-Bar official Marine Corp fighting knife, and the handy multiple tool pocket knife. Then we shuck some wheat, an introduction to raw food. He mentioned the solar eclipse coming in three days, a time known for "events" and suggested being prepared to be on our own for several days, as we spoke we did not know a 5.4 earthquake hit California just minutes before... What to do with your money... "cash will be king only for a short while, you will need gold, silver, and things to barter. It's raw root survival, are you asleep at the wheel of your reality?" "Survival is in the Details" Uncle Richard begins by heating a pan of water on his single camping burner and announces that his new three DVD set on preparedness will be available next month! This is great for those who cannot attend the "Ant School" at the Survival Center. We are going to have MRE's for lunch, hmmmm, never had an MRE before, we'll see how this goes. And this time he didn't forget the... do *you* remember what it was? He even showed it to us but we couldn't recognize it. "There's no reason why in troubled times we can't have our favorite foods." Are people who are prepared crazy or just plain smart? "Prepare no matter what the critics in your life say, they'll be thanking you later. Some of us have done the research so we know the reasons why we need to be prepared." ...more new gadgets, more things learned; what if the power goes off and never turns on? Survival is in the details; the MRE's are ready, listen to the response! what about pets, do they have long term food storage too? bottled water longevity and what the triangles on plastic bottles mean; how much space does a cow or chickens need? "Preparedness 101 a 4-finger reminder" (food-water-medical-shelter) Uncle Richard kindly starts our series of his "Ant School of Preparedness" for those who cannot attend the classes held at the Survival Center. He begins by surprising us with lunch! "...to have the experience" and share it with you. We partake of his No Cook Unit developed for those who want instant meals. We enjoyed freeze dried vegetables and beef in brown gravy over white rice that was cooked in a unique energy saving way ...with this unit all you have to do is boil water! It was surprisingly delicious! Then he brings out the "mother of all crackers" (the thickness of cookies and delicious) and from cans he spreads on white cheddar cheese that tastes like yummy brie, and real, smooth and creamy high quality butter that is heavenly (no preservatives or additives) ...yes from cans that will last on the shelf from 10 years to indefinitely! "A nice hot meal in an emergency is a real morale booster." As we munch he suggests you do a test and turn off your power for a weekend just for the experience, things you will need become obvious. And practical "pioneer" skills, can you fix things? How to store shoes and clothes to prevent deterioration. "At some point it's time to stop talking and start doing and that time is now." Learn to think before acting or reacting to avoid fatal mistakes. And ways you can be OK in any situation, like always having the 72 hour kit in your car, and to take it with you everywhere, even when traveling on airplanes! The Survival Center is very experienced and has been a great resource in preparedness for over three decades, Richard is always researching and experimenting.
