~~~ Marc Remillard ~~~
Marc Remillard, author of Compost Tea Making, self-taught enologist, and winemaker for the WWM since 2001.
Culturing has everything to do with wine, beer, yogurt, bread... all of which Marc has enjoyed making for many years (did you know making compost tea is very similar to making beer?) It's a fascinating world of the very tiny but huge and complex 'cultures' that we get to learn about and explore, with an excellent Tour Guide! More at:
Compost Tea Making - book cover image Compost Tea Making is the first comprehensive, practical guide to creating compost tea for farms, orchards, vineyards, lawns, and gardens. This essential reference book explains why compost teas have such powerful, beneficial effects for all plants, and we quickly understand the importance of rejuvenating the microbial life in our agricultural soils world-wide.
Seasoned with the authors incurable dry humor, elegant prose, photographs, and interviews with professionals, this book demystifies the often-confusing ideas and techniques used to make compost teas. With simple recipes, techniques, and equipment, the actual making of compost tea is easy.
"Solar Flare Survival"
The full title of Marc's new book is "Solar Flare Survival: Protect Yourself And Your Electronics From The Sun And EMP's With Faraday Cages". Concerned about his electronic equipment he found on the web confusing and conflicting information, he searched for a book and found none. Like his "Compost Tea Making" book he complied the research data into an easy to understand format. "It's electromagnetic science and so we don't know everything, a lot of it is mysterious." Digging into the science of this was fascinating. There are 17 spacecraft measuring different things on the sun all the time. We learn about the polar regions of the sun, the solar cycle, solar maximum and minimum, a serpent shedding its skin ejecting solar storms, CMEs, and that the sun might go quadrupoleric this May (& what that means). Our vulnerable power grid, our bodies and personal electronics, and the theory of the faraday cage. CME is explained and what happens when it hits earth. The mystery of the Electro Jets that go into the oceans and through continents underground. Do solar flares affect the stock market, or create earthquakes? Would electronics be safe far enough underground, but what about those Electro Jets? All this and more!
"Compost Tea Making"
Confused by the word "Tea"? Not for long as Marc introduces us to a whole new world of mirco-organisms. There are many cultures and species in this world, as there is in ours, and Marc brings them to life with elegance! They all have a voice, in the right environment the Yeast wakes up and says, "wow, I want to raise a family here!" We even find reviews from plants on the back cover promoting his book:)) His tomato plants, their high yields and vibrant colors, is what made him a believer in compost tea, something most gardeners who plant and fertilize don't know about... yet the difference in the health of the plants is stunning. Compost tea is easy to make, Marc describes a simple version and emphasizes the power of worms. What comes to mind when you hear the word BACTERIA? A new understanding of that emerges by first going back to the 1800s in France and the problem of bacteria in wine, what did they do about that? Louis Pasteur's attitude was get rid of the bugs, even today Universities are teaching that the soil is dead so we must sterilize it and add fertilizers. But here we get to the root of the matter, the risosphere of plants, Nature's most popular place for the "Microbial Dinner Party" and like any party sometimes there are a few unwelcome and rude guests. Marc explains the aerobic and anaerobic environments and why he only promotes aerobic. Also the difference between fungal tea and bacterial tea, and how to use them. EM1 discovered in 1980 is a set of Super Heroes, combined with compost tea it is a powerful duo! In this hour it becomes clear that this is yet another natural realm not understood by most and destroyed by many. We find that plants and microbes are a lot like us, and it stands to reason that plant pesticides and fertilizers are akin to packaged human food containing chemicals and devoid of nutrients. Neither can reach Nature's intended design of optimal health.
